Honour, accountability, and truth seem in considerably shorter supply today, in an era where politicians are routinely caught out in deceit, and will seemingly say anything to get a vote. We live in an era where people generally, and politicians specifically, adopt their ‘own truth’, one that fits their world view, whether that is in any way connected with reality or not.
In summary, the recent budget offered immediate, positive financial relief for low-income families through welfare changes (like scrapping the two-child limit), but introduced a complex, long-term change to SEND funding that brings hope for future systemic stability but offers no present solution to the immediate, ongoing crisis for children needing support.
The £740m announced today is welcomed and will have a positive impact. How much of an impact, and what that will mean for SEND pupils across the country, will depend on how quickly this funding becomes available, how it is distributed, and what schools use it for.
